Hearts Celebrated: LionHeart
My son Tamaio and I joined the collective goodness of many Portland families as they came together to raise funds for the Children’s Heart Foundation) at LionHeart In The Park.
I brought a camera to take photos of the event for the hardworking folks of CHF.
Tamaio eagerly pointed out each of our portraits around the event. Over a dozen large portraits from our studio were featured throughout the park. It’s such a good feeling to have your child excited about what you do! Familiar faces were everywhere, from the children we’d photographed to the committee members, like Aimee and Joe Mooney, who organized the event.
So many generous businesses and community members make this event possible each year. This year, there were additional informative learning booths. For example, Tamaio and I were able to see the tools and procedures doctors use to close a hole in the heart.
Side by side, festival goers created a community piece of art. The happy sound of marimbas rang through the park as kids skipped from bouncy houses to face painting to learning circus stunts. Children with congenital heart defects were easy to spot in their bright yellow t-shirts. The little girl above had just spotted her papa holding her in the photo display. It was a wonderful feeling to know that this fundraiser will make a difference in their lives.
This is always such a special event and an honor to be involved. If you missed it this year, mark your calendar for the 2nd Saturday in July 2009!
