COBWEBS, COSTUMES, CAMERAS AND KIDS

- Local businesses celebrate Halloween by raising money for the Oregon Food Bank-

PORTLAND, OR - October 7, 2011 –  “At this time of year, when the children in our lives are busy dreaming up elaborate costumes, and trick-or-treat routes designed to maximize candy collection, it’s easy to forget that more than 200,000 people rely on emergency food boxes from the Oregon Food Bank each month. Sadly, many of them are children.” So says Sellwood-based photographer Kim Campbell. Inspired by that sobering statistic, Campbell is her 4th year of raising food and funds for the Oregon Food Bank. "Last year we were thrilled to have raised over $1,000, enough for 100 emergency food boxes.  This year the need is even greater."

On Sunday, October 30, 2011, from 11 - 2 PM, costumed babies, toddlers and children are invited to haunt the halls of Campbell Salgado Studio as they enjoy healthy snacks, create seasonal crafts, and are photographed in their spookiest Halloween finery. Families are encouraged to head on over to Sellwood’s Monster March  - a Moreland neighborhood tradition.

Costume portraits packages may be purchased starting at $40, (with all profits benefiting the Oregon Food Bank.  A food drive barrel will also be on-site for those wishing to make an additional donation of non-perishable food items, providing attendees with an opportunity to make a difference in our community. Rounding out the day’s events will be a kids' costume contest.

Campbell Salgado Studio is located in the Sellwood neighborhood at 8107 SE 16th Avenue, Portland, OR 97202.

How Proceeds from This Event Will Benefit Hungry Oregon Families:  Photo packages start at $40 with all profits benefiting the Oregon Food Bank.  According to the Oregon Food Bank web site, for every dollar the Oregon Food Bank receives, it is able to move five pounds of food through its food distribution program, and a $10 contribution helps collect and distribute enough food to fill an emergency food box. A typical emergency food box provides enough food for a family of four for three-to-five days.

Profits raised from this special Halloween portrait event will enable food to flow through Oregon Food Bank’s four distribution centers in Portland, Hillsboro, southeast Oregon and Tillamook, and to 16 independent regional food banks. Ultimately, this food will reach 915 local hunger-relief agencies in both Oregon and Clark County, Washington. So not only will those who attend this holiday event walk away with adorable Halloween portraits of their babies and children, they’ll also being doing something to help Oregon families who may not have enough to eat. (A food drive barrel will also be onsite for those who wish to donate additional non-perishable food items.)
