Viva Mexico

This February Francisco and I took of an adventure to Mexico. Having travelled to a number of beautiful locations in Mexico we were up for a new destination. Having heard about Huatulco, Oaxaca for years from family they decided to make it the destination.

This mellow area offers a number of fun travel opportunities and a whopping 9 bays to explore, surf, swim or just enjoy a cold beer under a palapa at. Huatulco is the definition of unspoiled natural wonder with over 18 miles of coastline and 36 beaches. From sleepy protective coves, crashing waves surf spots to a nude beach (Zipolite), it really offers a little something for everyone, including the National Turtle Center

We found an amazing home perched at the edge of a cliff that opened directly onto panoramic views of the ocean. View this perfect adult retreat on Airbnb. This is not suitable for young children for safety reasons. But there are a number of great, on-the-beach, spots for families.

Huatulco turned out be a magical destination to relax. We were able to bracket our trip with a stop in Mexico City at each end to visit family. A visit to the top of the Monumento a la Revolución with Francisco's family led to lots of laughter as we climbed up and up to the very top. 360 degrees views were our reward. Mexico City is a city rich in culture, history, art and cuisine and an unforgettable travel desination itself.

The Campbell Salgado Family Portrait 2013

Yes…the Campbell Salgado's like to step in front of the lens from time to time too. We know better than most how important it is to document your tribe. Here's our latest family portrait taken by our fantastic assistant/photo retoucher extraordinaire Sierra.

As we've been enjoying these photos on our walls we've decided that the big changes for 2013 include Kim's hair lengthening, Francisco's beard graying and Tamaio's height growing (5'5" at 12 years old - Go Tamaio!).  Paulina and her fiancé Roberto seem to remained as youthful as ever and just got engaged this Summer.

Photographed on our newest background 'The Frida'. In honor of our favorite art icons Frida Kahlo this blue certainly sets a fun vibe.

Our Boy's Been Framed

Yup. It's true. Our son just got glasses. We couldn't resist sharing some updated photos of our 11 year old.

After letting us capture some portraits he came up with an idea of his own. It involved turning to youtube to watch some dub step videos for rad lighting, a brief clothing change and voila! I suppose this could be one of the benefits of having photographers for parents. A lifetime of rad photos.

El Corazón Launches

Kim's recent showed debuted several years worth of personal fine art work on November 2nd, 2011 at the Old Portland Hardware and Architectural shop in SE Portland. Friends, colleagues, clients and kids came out on the Day of the Dead to see what Kim's been percolating behind the scenes.

With a focus on the Meixcan game Lotería - Kim displayed work that included the participation of over 2 dozen  children. With over 125 people in attendance it was a feast for art and  community. See more photos in this online gallery or mosey over to Kim's personal website to learn more about El Corazón. Think your child is well suited for El Corazón? Kim does some commission work when requested - learn more here.
